What Motivated Suhani

A super cyclonic storm "Amphan" caused widespread damage in West Bengal in May 2020. Suhani was devastated to see that kids in the affected areas have no food, water, clothes, or personal hygiene products amid Covid-19. They had no masks either. Many of these children lost their home and have no shelter, as everything is under water. The total damages were estimated to be over 13.2 billion dollars. At that time of crisis, Suhani started the fundraiser for kids in the affected areas of West Bengal. The money collected with this fundraiser was used in partnership with an NGO "Aamader Proyaas" to serve remote areas impacted by the hurricane by donating food, medicine, water and personal hygiene products.

The Impact

Suhani's fundraiser helped more than 500 low income families affected by Cyclone Amphan. She was able to collect more than Rs 1,00,000 through Facebook and personal donations and collaborated with NGO “Amader Proyaash” to help the remote areas that were impacted the most. With the help of the NGO, she understood the importance of basic necessities such as food and shelter. While we are privileged to choose what we get to eat for these impacted families it was not a choice! They were lucky if there was enough food for the family. She understood what it means to be hungry for days for the same-aged children, how a soap and mask could help prevent Covid-19 spread, as well as the need for basic hygiene requirements for young girls and women.

She plans to continue her social efforts in future to help those are in need the most!
